Honey, it is just money

It was not very long ago that Amazon.com upheld the right of their customers or their right to choose within the world's largest democracy by the following statement:

Let me assure you that Amazon.com does not support or promote hatred or criminal acts; we do support the right of every individual to make their own purchasing decisions,"

And if some of you missed this news and failed to see the kind of privilege/freedom it offered  to it’s valuable customers,

It was the following electronic book,

"The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure: a Child-lover's Code of Conduct," by Philip R. Greaves II, went on sale on Oct. 28 and cost $4.79 to download.
But sane customers were quick to lodge their protest:

The book quickly sparked a massive protest online, with thousands of Twitter users and Amazon customers calling for Amazon to remove the book, and some threatening to boycott the company altogether until it did.

Even if Amazon.com was not forthright in its intention, the author was, since he did not mince his words:

"I can see where they would come to that kind of conclusion and to a certain extent I wanted that kind of notoriety to affect the book. ... I wanted it to effect sales," he said.

But I am glad that this world still is still sane since only one book was sold.

Not sure if those aspiring pedophiles were scared to download fearing watchful eyes, but it seems before Amazon pulled the book, it apparently shot to #96 on Amazon's Top 100 list.

And now Amazon.com has chosen to block wikileaks and  most of it's sites are under attack by hackers.

  1. Goodness! How on earth could such a book be put on sale? Thank god people protested and they pulled it off.

Everything does seem to be about money, doesn't it?

  3. Smitha: Exactly my own sentiments when I first read the news some time ago. In the end only profit counts for some.

Wanted to write the same day but now I am glad to note that power still rests with ordinary folks.. yes.. in a democracy their voice matters, however rich or powerful the adversary might be.

Abhi: Did read the same day and was shocked.. Some organizations need to set their priorities right.

  4. The Wikileaks saga is a testimony to the severely hypocritical stonewalling intimidation of the big-bully Uncle Sam who've chosen to close their eyes to all the 'freedom' preaches they've been vociferously advocating all these years. Assange is my hero, to fight a lone battle against such an organized hunt by World's Super Power nation, HK, I tell you! THIS IS THE STORY OF THE MILLENNIUM!

One man vs Rest of the World, led by the United States! EPIC :)

  5. Huh! What happened to "right of the individual" when it came to Wikileaks I wonder! Anyway thank God sanity prevailed in the first case.

  6. I am really surprised how some one could come up with a book like that. But then,we do not even know whether the book really had anything to do with pedophilia.Sometimes, the titles are misleading. The writer would just try to take you for a ride.
If it were genuine, then Amazon really is answerable.Whatever, they should know social responsibilities.

  7. Scorpio: It is indeed the story of the millenium..now one should hope for something good to come out of all this revelation.

Dreamer: Freedom has different meaning I guess :)
China and now Iran has also blocked wikileaks.... and now I am not sure how US differs from both these countries. But then I am sure every educated US citizen has read the wikileaks.

Dr: I read that the author has brought out this book so that the pedophiles and the children are safe from law..

"Though the book's details are no longer online, a Google-cached version of its page reveals Greaves' description of his work as "my attempt to make pedophile situations safer for those juveniles that find themselves involved in them, by establishing certian [sic] rules for these adults to follow. I hope to achieve this by appealing to the better nature of pedosexuals, with hope that their doing so will result in less hatred and perhaps liter [sic] sentences should they ever be caught."

and of you have time, do read the following.. thanks to wikileaks again..

It is a relief to know that only 1% of men have the tendency. As much as the author is trying to prove his point I think instead of protecting their interests, it is best to cure them or shut them up but yet again, it is money that keeps this going.
